Tools Needed
Pizza Peel
This is important for transferring the pizza onto the heated pizza stone when you’re done making the pizza. You can use an oversized turner or even cutting board for this, but we’ve found that a pizza peel works the best.
Pizza Stone
If you don’t have a pizza stone and you love pizzas, it’s good to invest in one. Pizza stones allow even baking of your pizza as they help the heat distribution be uniform. It helps you make the best pizza crust ever — whether you’re using this cauliflower pizza crust recipe or any other pizza recipe. Don’t forget to preheat the pizza stone in the oven so it doesn’t crack.
Food Processor
A food processor will be needed to pulse your cauliflower into a rice-like texture.
Parchment Paper
To prevent your cauliflower pizza crust from sticking to the pizza stone, you should use parchment paper.
Ingredients
This recipe requires ingredients that are probably already there in your pantry.
- 1 1/2 lb Cauliflower (one large head of florets, rice-like texture)
- 1 1/2 cup parmesan cheese (grated)
- 1 Egg (large)
- 1/2 tbsp Italian seasoning
- 1/2 tsp Garlic powder
- Salt and pepper (optional, to taste)
Italian seasoning and garlic powder can add great taste to your pizza crust, but you can do without them as well. You can skip the salt too as cheese is already salty enough.
How to Rice Your Cauliflower
You’re going to require a food processor, as mentioned above, to pulse your cauliflower into a rice-like form, known as pulsed florets. Cauliflower rice is easily available at your nearby stores too.
When your cauliflower is pulsed, you need to steam it. This is best done using a microwave-proof bowl, but you can do this using by boiling it simply in water or using a vegetable streamer. In the end, drain all the water from your steamed rice-like cauliflower. You can use a towel to do so.
Ensure your cauliflower’s texture is soft, not crispy.
How to Make the Cauliflower Pizza Crust
Now that your cauliflower is soft and ready, it’s time to get into the instructions for making the crispiest crust.
Step 1
Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Step 2
While your oven is preheating, mix the cauliflower rice with grated cheese, egg, and any seasonings that we’ve mentioned in the ingredients above. Throw all these ingredients in a bowl and use your hands and combine the ingredients together well until the crust’s dough is ready. Don’t expect the dough to look like your traditional pizza dough.
Step 3
Now use your hands to spread the dough onto the parchment paper evenly. Make the crust ¼ inch thick and make a large circle, with the diameter coming up to be about 9 inches.
Step 4
Use the pizza peel to transfer your parchment paper onto the pizza stone in your oven. Bake the pizza for 20 minutes or until the edges are firm, dry, and golden.
Step 5
Once baked, take the cauliflower pizza crust out of the oven and let it cool for 5 to 10 minutes. This will help the crust become more firm. You can any toppings you’d like and let the pizza bake for an additional 10 minutes.
How to Store and Freeze Your Cauliflower Pizza Crust
It’s impossible to get leftovers from this delicious and light pizza, but if you do end up having leftovers, you can store them in your fridge for a couple of days. Reheat later on the pizza stone in your oven. It might not remain crispy but will still be delicious.
You can also freeze the cauliflower pizza crust but do so without any toppings or sauces. When you want to add the toppings and sauces, add them to the frozen pizza and toss your pizza in your oven to bake and eat fresh and warm.
