Well, what is gluten-free? Gluten is a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley. This is what allows the flour to become sticky when we mix it with water. It’s like glue, which helps the bread rise when baking. Many people have a condition where they can’t eat foods containing gluten or are unable to digest gluten.
A gluten-free diet allows people to avoid gluten as it can harm the intestines. If not avoided, it can cause severe discomfort and health problems. However, when you’re on a gluten-free diet, there are several benefits too. We’ll get into those benefits later.
Is Coffee Gluten-Free?
You must be wondering if coffee is gluten-free. Well, we’re here to enlighten you before we get into this delicious gluten-free recipe for a yummy Espresso Mocha Dessert.
To answer the question in one word: yes. Coffee and coffee beans are gluten-free. Your favorite bean, coffee bean, doesn’t contain the protein called gluten as it has other natural sugars to grow. If you serve your coffee with just dairy milk and sugar, there is no gluten. But coffee creamers can contain gluten.
However, instant coffee might not always be gluten-free. Mocha and other enhanced forms of coffee beans dried up for instant coffee might have some gluten content. So, it’s always important to check the list of ingredients before buying.
Whenever buying flavored coffee or a coffee creamer, be aware that it could contain gluten as it could be processed in a factory that works with gluten.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is Mocha?
Mocha is basically a variant of a chocolate-flavored cafe latte. It’s made with espresso, chocolate flavoring, hot milk, and of course, a sweetener. The chocolate flavoring can be in the form of chocolate spreads, cocoa powder. Many coffee drinks are bitter in taste, but mocha is known for its sweeter taste, so, in this recipe, the use of mocha is a great fit as it is a dessert for all the sweet tooths out there—the sweet taste of mocha balances out the bitterness of coffee beans.
Mocha is also known as mochaccino.
Does Mocha Taste like Coffee?
Mocha is essentially coffee, so it does taste like coffee, however, when mixed with a lot of chocolate and sweeteners, it can end up tasting like hot chocolate. But the rich chocolate flavor is great in balancing out the coffee’s bitterness for those coffee lovers who prefer their coffee a little sweet and less bitter.
